I started going to motorcycle events in 1977 when I bought my Shovelhead. Then in 1979, I rode from Colorado up to Sturgis with friends for my first big rally. At that time, we would just ride up on a Friday for the weekend, the goal, getting to City Park before dark in time for the big party Friday night. In the early 80’s, as I got more and more assignments from Easyriders, I added Daytona Bike Week to the annual rally roster and Laconia soon after. In the years since, I’ve photographed large and small rallies and bike shows across the USA, Canada, Mexico, Europe, Russia and Japan. So many people comment how great the scene must have been 40 years ago, but all I have to say to them is it was never as good as it is now. The rallies and shows are amazing and the quality of the custom bikes is off the charts compared to anything we could have ever imagined back in the ’70’s.
